CNAME setup
Add one CNAME record at your DNS provider, then click Verify. Here is exactly what to copy, where it goes, and how to confirm it.
Right after you add your site
Right after you create a site, TrueMetriks shows this. Copy the Name and the Value into your DNS provider exactly as shown (do not rename them), turn the proxy off, save, then come back and click Verify.
Connect your domain
Add a CNAME record to start tracking. This connects your site to TrueMetriks.
Add this CNAME on your DNS provider
Hits sent through your own subdomain bypass most ad-blockers and stay first-party.

Below are the exact steps for the two most common providers.
Cloudflare
Open your zone, go to DNS → Records, and click the blue Add record button.
DNS records for yourdomain.com
Manage how the Internet finds your web content, verifies services, and routes traffic.
In the panel that opens:
- Type: choose
CNAME. - Name: paste the Name from your dashboard (
havenin the example). - Target: paste the Value from your dashboard (
run.trmtks.com). - Proxy status: turn it off so it reads DNS only (grey cloud, not orange).
- Click Save.
Then go back to TrueMetriks and click Verify.
GoDaddy
Open My Products → Domains, click your domain, open the DNS section, and click Add New Record.
- Type: choose
CNAME. - Name: paste the Name from your dashboard.
- Value: paste the Value from your dashboard.
- Leave TTL on the default (1 Hour is fine).
- Click Save.
GoDaddy has no proxy toggle, so there is nothing else to switch off. Go back to TrueMetriks and click Verify.
Any other DNS provider
Every provider works the same way: add a CNAME record, paste in the Name and Value from your dashboard, turn off the proxy if there is one, then save and click Verify.
If you closed the popup
No problem. Until the CNAME is verified, a yellow reminder banner stays pinned to the top of every dashboard page, and the same details live under Settings → Tracking. Either one reopens the exact fields above.

Troubleshooting
- Verify still failing after a few minutes? Check that the Name and Value match your dashboard exactly, with no trailing dots or extra spaces.
- On Cloudflare, make sure the record is DNS only (grey cloud), not Proxied (orange cloud).
- Still stuck? See Troubleshooting → Common issues.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I find the CNAME record to copy?
It is in the Connect-your-domain popup that opens right after you create a site. If you closed it, click the yellow reminder banner at the top of any dashboard page, or open Settings > Tracking. Both show the same fields with copy icons.
Can I pick my own subdomain name?
No. TrueMetriks generates the Name (e.g. haven) for your site. Copy it exactly. A custom name will not pass Verify, because the dashboard checks the literal value it generated.
My DNS provider is on Cloudflare. Should I leave the orange cloud on?
No. Set the record to DNS only (grey cloud). Cloudflare-proxied records pointing at another provider's network can break with Error 1014 / Cross-User Banned. DNS only resolves correctly.
How long does DNS propagation take?
Usually 1-5 minutes for major providers (Cloudflare, Namecheap, GoDaddy). Some can take up to an hour. If Verify still fails after 30 minutes, re-check the Name and Value for typos or trailing dots.
What if Verify still fails after an hour?
Run dig <name>.<yourdomain>.com (or use a tool like https://dnschecker.org/) and confirm the CNAME resolves to the exact Value shown in your popup. If it does, see Troubleshooting and ping support with the output.
